12 drug peddlers held in JK

Srinagar, (UNI): Twelve drug peddlers were arrested and huge quantity of contraband substances were recovered from their possession during different raids across the Kashmir valley, police said.

As per Police, two notorious drug peddlers have been detained under Prevention of Illicit Traffic (PIT) and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

A police party Watergam at a checkpoint arrested a suspicious person identified as Mehraj ud Din Bhat, a resident of Ladoora Rafiabad and recovered 169 banned capsules from his possession.

In Awantipora, one Gulzar Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Bra Bandina was arrested and three kilograms of grinded cannabis (concealed in a nylon bag) were recovered from his possession.

In a similar incident, in Handwara, a suspicious person identified as Farooq Ahmad Teli a resident of Maidan Chogal was arrested and 205 grams of charas was recovered from his possession, police further said.
One more drug peddler was arrested on Sopore-Kupwara highway identified as Fayaz Ahmad, resident of Drugmulla Kupwara and two kilogram of charas was seized from him.

Similarly, Police in Baramulla have arrested five drug peddlers and 113 grams of charas and 85 grams of Heroin have been recovered from their possession.

The accused were identified as Rafiq Ahmad Mir, resident of Chekthanpora Chanpora Tangmarg, Humayun Tariq and Abid Hamid both residents of Nowshera Baramulla, Javid Ahmad Ganie, resident of Bachi Trikanjan Boniyar and Arshid Ahmad Mugal, resident of Salamabad Uri.

Meanwhile, an alleged accused identified as Nisar Ahmad Dar of Sesman Damjan Qazigund was arrested and 25 kilogram of poppy straw was seized from him.

Police also booked two notorious drug peddlers Ali Mohammad Mir, resident of Mir Mohalla D H Pora and Azaz Ahmed Wani resident of Wanigund Khudwani.
Further investigation was underway, police added.
