Jammu and Kashmir Police in Baramulla on Thursday claimed to have arrested two drug peddlers and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A Police party of PP Mirgund at a checkpoint established at Jheel Bridge Pattan arrested a drug peddler who was trying to flee from the spot after noticing police party but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Gh Hussain Ganie son of Mohd Hatim resident of Kripalpora Payeen During search, 70 grams of Cannabis Powder was recovered from his possession, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Meanwhile, a police party of PP Delina at a checkpoint established at Delina Baramulla intercepted a vehicle (Sumo) bearing registration number JK05B-0111 driven by Raakib Bashir Hurrah son of Bashir Ahmad Hurrah resident of Kanispora Baramulla. During the search, 12 grams of Heroin was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said.
Both the arrested drug peddlers have been shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody, police added.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said
