Srinagar, March 14 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said it has busted a module of the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group that was involved in the killing of a Sarpanch in Kulgam district.
Sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir was shot dead at Audoora area in south Kashmir three days ago.
The Inspector General of Police (Kashmir) said that investigation showed that Mir was killed by the Hizb.
A police announcement said three terrorist associates involved in the killing were arrested and incriminating materials including two pistols were recovered.
“On their disclosure, the vehicles used in the crime have been seized. During investigation, it was learnt that the Sarpanch was killed by terrorist Mushtaq Yatoo on the directions of HM chief terrorist Farooq Nalli.”
Three Panchayat members have been killed in Kashmir this month, creating panic among Sarpanches and panches.
Police say that panchayat members facing threats are provided safe accommodation in Srinagar and all other district headquarters.
