Jammu & Kashmir police on Tuesday said to have arrested five drug smugglers in Baramulla and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police party led by Incharge PP Babareshi under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg Imtiyaz Ahmad at a checkpoint established at Salamdeedar Babareshi intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK05K-1768 ridden by one person, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
During search, 440 grams of Poppy Straw & 182 grams of Poppy Powder like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Imtiyaz Salim Khan son of Sarandaz Khan resident of Tangwari Bala. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said.
Similarly, police under the supervision of SDPO Tangmarg assisted by SHO PS Tangmarg during naka checking at Solinda Tangmarg intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05K-5490 with four persons on board who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully, police said.
During search, 370 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Ganie son of Ab Jabbar, Dawood Ahmad Sofi son of Gh Hassan, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat son of Gh Ahmad Bhat & Suhail Ahmad Sofi son of Gh Hassan, all residents of Solinda Tangmarg. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized, police said.
Accordingly, police said that cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
“Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddling in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” police said
