5 killed in China coal mine accident

Five people were killed in a coal mine accident in the Chinese northeastern province of Heilongjiang, the country’s media reported on Tuesday, citing sources.

The accident took place on Monday at 8.38 pm local time at Xing’an coal mine in Hegang city, trapping nine people inside, China Central TV reported, adding that four people were successfully rescued.

The preliminary investigation showed that the accident had been caused by a leakage of liquid carbon dioxide, as per the media reports.

Further investigation is continuing, Chinese media added.
