At least six people were killed on Thursday morning and two others injured in a head-on collision between a mini-bus and a truck in Tanzania’s northwestern region of Geita, said police on Thursday.
Sofia Jongo, the Geita regional police commander, said the collision occurred at the Mzibira area of Uyovu ward in the Bukombe district at 6:07 a.m., local time.
Jongo said all the victims were traveling in the mini-bus, adding that preliminary investigations revealed that the driver of the mini-bus had sped and dozed off when the collision occurred.
“The dead were the driver of the bus, his bus conductor and four passengers,” said the police official.
She added that the mini-bus was heading to Nyakanazi in Biharamulo district in the Kagera region from Kahama district in the Shinyanga region.
