62 injured as Footbridge collapses during Baisakhi celebration in Udhampur

20 people shifted to District Hospital for further treatment: BMO Chenani

At least 62 persons including several children were injured after a footbridge collapsed during Baisakhi celebration at Beni Sangam in Bain village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Friday, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that during Baisakhi celebrations, people in large numbers were on the bridge when it collapsed at Beni Sangam in Bain village.

They said soon after the incident, Police and relief teams rushed to the spot and started a rescue operation. “There was no causality so far”, the official added.

Talking to KNO, Block Medical Officer (BMO) Chenani B. L Choudhary said 62 people were injured among them 20 were shifted to District Hospital Udhampur for further treatment.

“The others are here in Chenani and are being looked after by the medical staff,” he said
