Dantewada (Chhattisgarh), Feb 5 (UNI) Nine Maoists – including three on whom rewards had been announced – have surrendered in Left-wing extremism-affected Bastar division thus raising to 506 the number of rebels who returned to the mainstream in this district under an insurgency-eradication campaign, police said on Saturday.
The ultras – who owed allegiance to the Katekalyan Area Committee – capitulated to Superintendent of Police Siddharth Tiwari and other officers on Friday. Three of the outlaws – who carried purses of Rs 10,000 each – are Jan Militia members Hidma Kawasi, Somaram Mandwi and Medical Team member Sunil Nuppo.
The others were identified as Kosha Ram Sodi, Hidma Mandawi, Manglu Kunjam, Somdi Lekam, Mahesh Markam and Hidma alias Koyli Toti. Militants are clearly on the back-foot and as a direct consequence development work is witnessing acceleration.
