The 99th birth anniversary of late Sarwanand Kaul Premi was celebrated at Soaf Kokernag in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday.
In this regard the function was conducted in the premises of late Sarwanand Kaul Premi Government Higher Secondary School Soaf during which a good number of functionaries including representatives from district administration participated, a statement issued by the school said.
Sarwanand Premi was a Kashmiri poet, research scholar, Gandhian, social reformer and independence activist living in Jammu & Kashmir who was kidnapped, tortured and killed by militants along with his son in 1990.
Rich tributes were paid to Premi for his contribution to the society in general and the people of the area in particular, the statement said.
His selfless services for the Nation and the community were highlighted through topics and cultural Programmes during the event.
The speakers threw a detailed light on his contributions towards the Nation and the society in terms of his literary contributions, Social work , promotion of brotherhood among different communities of society.
The program was honoured with the online address of his elder son Rajinder Kaul Premi in which he passed the message of communal brotherhood.
The day-long program ended with the vote of thanks by the Principal of the institution with the promises that the mission of the national hero will be carried on with zeal and zest.
