Belgian athlete Bashir Abdi captured the crown in the 42nd edition of the Rotterdam Marathon on Sunday, while Eunice Chumba triumphed in the women’s race.

34-year-old Abdi finished on Coolsingel Street in a time of two hours, three minutes and 48 seconds, just above his European record and course record of 2:03:36 from 2021, when he also won the Rotterdam Marathon.

Just behind Abdi, Kenyan Timothy Kiplagat finished second in 2:03:50. Dutchman Abdi Nageeye, last year’s winner, fought his way to third place in the final phase in 2:05:32.

Eunice Chumba, running on behalf of Bahrain but born in Kenya, finished the women’s race in 2:20:31. The time was well above the course record of 2:18:58 set by Ethiopia’s Tiki Getana in 2012. The second place went to Eritrea’s Tesfu Telegergisch Dolshi in 2:21:35.
