Srinagar, Mar 11 (UNI) J&K’s Anti Corruption Bureau arrested a sales tax inspector in Kashmir while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.
Inspector, sales tax department, Srinagar Khalid Bashir Tantray was trapped by a team of ACB while demanding and accepting bribe for settling the case of penalty of sales tax, a spokesman of the Bureau said.
It said the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Tantray is demanding Rs 3 lakh as bribe for setting right records pertaining to internal audit report of the sales tax department Srinagar. The complainant who is running a business unit, was facing penalty of Rs 14 lakh from Sales Tax Department.
ACB registered a case and investigations were taken up.
“During the course of investigation a trap team caught red-handed Khalid Bashir Tantray, while demanding and accepting bribe amount of Rs 3 lakh from the complainant. He was arrested on the spot and the bribe money was also recovered from his possession in presence of independent witnesses,” the spokesman said.
Immediately after the trap, search was conducted in residential house of the accused, he added.
