Senior Advocate and All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) secretary Zafaryab Jilani passed away on Wednesday in Lucknow after suffering a head injury recently, lawyer and close associate M R Shamshad said.
Jllani, around 74 years old, was not keeping well for the last two years.
“Two years ago he suffered brain hammurage, and thereafter he kept himself confined to home,” Shamshad said.
Jilani, an expert in the field of law, being a convenor of the Babri Masjid Action Committee, had argued very well in the Ram Janmabhoomi case in the Supreme Court.
In the past, he also served as the Additional Advocate General (AAG) of Uttar
Pradesh government and represented it before the SC in many cases.
Remembering Jilani and his work and expertise in the field of law, Shamshad said that he was a good lawyer, and also a good human being. “He always wanted to know something in the field of law, in spite of the fact that he was an expert in this field,” Shamshad said.
In May 2021, he was admitted to Medanta Hospital due to a brain hemorrhage. Also, he tested positive for COVID-19 and underwent treatment.
On the very day on November 08, 2019, when the Supreme Court passed the landmark judgement on Ram Janmabhoomi case he felt very dissatisfied, but said that he respected the decision of the Top Court.
