Army Chief On Maiden Visit To Kashmir: Visits Forward Posts In LoC, Chairs Security Meet At BB Cant

Srinagar: The Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane visited the forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) and chaired a crucial security review meeting at army’s Srinagar based 15 Corps headquarters.

According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Army chief was accompanied by northern army commander Lt Gen YK Joshi and GoC 15 Corps Lt Gen KJS Dhillon during his visit to the formations and units deployed along the Line of Control.

“The army was briefed by the local Commanders on the situation on the Line of Control, cease fire violations, our retaliations, counter infiltration operations and operational preparedness being maintained,” defence spokesman in Srinagar, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said in a statement here.

He said that during army chief’s interaction with the soldiers on snow clad heights, he was appreciative of the sharp vigil and alertness along the Line of Control and high morale of the troops.  “The army chief also exhorted the soldiers to remain alert for any eventuality. He further reinforced the need to be prepared to meet emerging security challenges effectively at all times,” the defence spokesman said.

The spokesman said that the army chief was earlier briefed by the GoC 15 Corps at Badami Bagh Cantonment on the overall situation pertaining to the Line of Control and the hinterland. “

“The army chief also interacted with senior officials of the administration and Security Forces.  He also met members of the civil society,” the defence spokesman said, adding that it was the first visit of General Naravane to Kashmir after taking over as the army chief
