New Delhi, March 14 (UNI) The Indian Army lost 156 personnel in terrorist attacks and counter-terrorist operations in five years from 2017 to 2022, the Government informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
The Indian Air Force lost three personnel, while the Indian Navy did not suffer any casualty in the said period, Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt said in a written reply.
Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Mallikarjun Kharge sought to know the total number of casualties suffered by the armed forces jawans in terrorist attacks across the country in the last five years.
In the same period, from 2017 to 2022, the Indian Army suffered 323 non-fatal casualties and the IAF suffered three non-fatal casualties. No Indian Navy personnel suffered any casualty during this period, the Minister said.
An amount of Rs 10.63 crore has been disbursed as part of the compensation and support to the families of the deceased or injured Indian Army soldiers, he added.
