Army underscores need for secure environment for G20 meet

A senior Army officer posted close to the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday underscored the need for a secure environment for the upcoming G20 meeting scheduled later this month.

Officials said the Boniyar based Pir Panjal Brigade of Army in Baramulla hosted a civil-military security cum liaison meeting on Monday which was chaired by Brigade Commander. The meeting was attended by all unit representatives in the rear area of the Brigade Area of Responsibility (AoR), Sarpanchs, Deputy Panchs and Lumberdars from Rampur, Chandanwadi, Uranbua, Gingle, Rajarwain and Lagama.

The Chairman Municipal Committee, Uri, Bharat Kumar also attended the same.

“The meeting was conducted with an aim to renew harmony between locals and Armed Forces, to foster positive involvement of the locals in cooperation with security-related issues, enhance cooperation and coordination between civilian notables and the Indian Army,” officials said.

The meeting provided a platform for the exchange of information and ideas, to ensure the effective implementation of policies, programs, and operations that involve both civilian and military components leading to a more secure and harmonious environment, they said


Commander, Pir Panjal Brigade made the attendees aware of the upcoming G20 meet at Gulmarg and its implications on national and global level.

“The need for a secure environment and the role of the local population in this was highlighted,” officials said.
