A senior Jammu and Kashmir police officer on Tuesday said that deputy superintendent of police Sheikh Adil Mushtaq, who was arrested recently on charges of corruption, was not involved in Kokarnag Anantnag “ terror incident as an insider betrayal”.
Two decorated Army officers, a police officer and a soldier were killed in a gun battle in a forest area of Kokarnag last month that also left two militants dead.
“It has come to notice that a video news item has been uploaded purportedly issued by a news agency by the name of Bharat TAK suggesting that DSP Adil Mushtaq is involved in the Kokernag terror incident as an insider betrayal. There is no truth to this video news,” Additional Director General of Police, Kashmir Vijay Kumar was quoted in a post on X by Kashmir police.
“DSP Adil Mushtaq is being investigated for an entirely different case in Srinagar district and not in Anantnag. This type of #irresponsible #journalism is also an act of criminal misconduct and is liable for legal action,” he added.
DSP Adil, a 2015 batch officer of the Kashmir Police Service (KPS), was arrested on September 21 and was suspended on Sunday by J&K government. On Tuesday, he was sent to 10-day judicial custody.
As per the FIR DSP Adil is accused of allegedly taking money to drop certain charges in a “terror funding case” and attempting to implicate a police officer who was investigating a terror operative of LeT.
