Srinagar: Amid reports of releasing the Kashmiri detained leaders from three-month-long detention, the authorities here have detained more youth leaders from National Conference (NC), sources said.

According to the wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), sources privy to the development said that scores of youth leaders from regional mainstream political party (NC) have been detained in last couple of days.

They said that the leaders have been lodged at Central jail Srinagar and police stations, adding that it was not ascertained so far that on what grounds they have been put under detention.

Sources said that the party couldn’t meet the detained youth leaders so far, adding that the reason behind putting them under detention will be known only after a meeting with them will take place.

The party’s top brass including its president and incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. Farooq Abdullah and his son and party’s vice president Omar Abdullah along with party’s General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar are undergoing detention since August 5, when the central government abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir (Article 370) and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories. Dr. Farooq has been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA).

Besides, the leaders from other political parties too are undergoing under detention since August 5. However, there was no official confirmation regarding the detention of more youth leaders from National Conference. (KNO)
