Police suspect BJP activists behind stone pelting
Srinagar: Police here suspects involvement of a BJP leader who allegedly orchestrated stone pelting on the cavalcade of former Chief Minister and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti in Anantnag district.
Mufti’s cavalcade was attacked on Monday by stone-pelters in Anantnag district leaving a cop wounded.
“There were only 3 boys said to be hiding on the route which was to be used by Mufti to address a party meeting”, police sources said.
They added that Mufti was returning after paying obeisance at a dargah in Khiram village when these people stoned the cavalcade which was on way to Bijbehara town in Anantnag district.
A vehicle was damaged in the incident but security forces immediately cordoned off the area to provide a safe passage to the PDP President, informed sources said.
It was reliably learnt that only few stones were hurled towards the cavalcade and the pelters vanished in the nearby village.
“Preliminary probe points fingers towards a BJP worker who instigated some youth to pelt stones”, sources said adding that the investigation was still on.
