Bandipora: The 84-km Bandipora-Gurez road has been closed for all sorts of traffic movement on Monday evening owing to adverse weather conditions and slippery condition of the road at Razdan Pass.

According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the road has been closed due to slippery condition of the road at Razdan Pass and adverse weather conditions. An official said that as the MET department has predicted rain and snowfall for three days in the Kashmir valley, the Bandipora-Gurez road has been closed to avoid any untoward incident.

He said that the road has also been closed due to slippery conditions and strong winds at Razdan Pass which makes movement of vehicles difficult. The road was closed on several occasions due to heavy snowfall on Razdan Pass and Gurez valley from November this year.

As per KNO, the road remains closed for all sorts of traffic movement during winter months from November due to heavy snowfall thereby isolates the Gurez valley from rest of the Kashmir valley and outside world.

However, due to persistent efforts by the district administration this time, the road was re-opened for traffic several times even as the weather conditions were not favorable.

Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza told KNO that the road has been closed for time being as a precautionary measure as the weather was not favorable. “We would try to re-open the road as and when weather allows,” he added. Due to the closure of the road, the people in Gurez valley have to face a lot of inconveniences as this is the only road link connecting Gurez with mainland Kashmir and the outside world.
