Panaji, Feb 7 (UNI) Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Monday alleged that the focus of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was to stay in power by any means.

”This election is very significant. Goa is rich in resources, rich in natural beauty, rich in skill, yet it is second highest in unemployment. The government’s focus is just to stay in power. You saw what happened after the last assembly elections that power was usurped and democracy was upturned,” she told a public meeting at Nuvem constituency.

She alleged that the government was helping its industrialist friends and the three linear projects were examples of that.

”Focus is on creating wealth for the government’s industrialist friends. Three linear projects are to help just one industrialist. Not a single youth from Goa will get a job from this exercise but you will get pollution and your environment will get destroyed,” she said.

Gandhi said the Central government did not help people during the Covid-19 pandemic and in the budget too there were a lot of provisions for big industrialist friends but no provisions for the middle class, poor and small and medium businesses.

She alleged that job scams were taking place in all BJP-ruled states.

”In Uttar Pradesh children are giving exams after exams as papers are being leaked. Here also the same thing is happening… Scams are being carried out, instead of jobs being given,” the Congress leader said.

Attacking the Centre, she said, ”Black money was not brought back as promised but what we saw was the collapse of businesses of hardworking people. Till today, post GST, demonetization, Covid and lockdown, there is no support from the government,” she said.

Gandhi said there was an increase in crime rate and the government had a typical mindset of not accepting the truth that women were equal.

”It’s our right to get 50 per reservation and we will fight for that. Politics of today has become filled with hatred and anger. I believe women can bring positivity in it. Women should be helped to stand up,” she said.

Gandhi was on a day-long visit to Goa.
