Port Blair, Feb 08 (UNI) The Andaman & Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) has formed an alliance with the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK, A&N Islands) for the upcoming Municipal and Panchayat elections 2022.
An official announcement in this regard was made on Monday night by ANTCC President Rangalal Halder after nearly two day long discussion with All India Congress Committee, A & N State In-Charge A. Chellakumar, DMK State Organiser, A.L.Kulandai and Member of Parliament Kuldeep Rai Sharma.
The alliance also marked a seat sharing agreement between Congress and the DMK in Andaman for the forthcoming Municipal & Panchayat election.
Accordingly, the DMK will contest in Ward Number. 1, 6, 9, 15 and 21 of the Municipal Constituencies.
Rangalal Halder, being the President of the ANTCC signed the agreement letter in the presence of other office bearers and handed it over to the DMK State Organiser A.L.Kulandai on Monday night.
Talking to the media, Rangalal Halder said that in the past Lok Sabha elections ANTCC and DMK had worked together and won elections together. He exuded confidence that the alliance with the DMK will ensure victory in the coming elections.
Meanwhile, the Telugu Desam Party on Monday night declared that due to some political issues, seats offered for an alliance by ANTCC is not agreeable to Telugu Desam Party of A&N Islands for Municipal and Panchayat elections.
The Telugu Desam Party of Andaman & Nicobar Islands has now decided to contest the coming elections for local Gram Panchayats, Zila Parishads & Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) in Andaman & Nicobar Islands without an alliance with Indian National Congress.
Earlier on February 02, 2022 the ANTCC had declared alliance with the Telugu Desam Party in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to contest the ensuing Municipal & Panchayat polls. It was then agreed that TDP will contest from Ward no. 2, 5 and 16 in PBMC election.
As per Election Commissioner, A & N Islands, the Municipal and Panchayat elections in Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be held on 6th March 2022 (Sunday) and the results will be declared on 8th March 2022 (Tuesday).
As per details, the polling date for the Municipal and Panchayat elections is 6th March 2022, while the last date for making nominations is 11th Feb 2022 (Friday).
The date for scrutiny of nominations is 12th Feb 2022, while the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is 14th Feb 2022. The date of counting of votes will be on 8th March 2022(Tuesday).
