Hoshiarpur, March 12 (UNI) Activists of various Hindu outfits, led by Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) Punjab Vice Presidents Ranjit Rana and Prince Katna, and former Punjab minister and BJP leader Tikshan Sud, staged dharna and blocked vehicular traffic on Jalandhar-Pathankot GT Road at Tanda, about 32 kms from here at about 1030 hours on Saturday in protest against the mass slaughtering of cows in the area of Tanda town. The protestors were demanding to register a case in Tanda police station in this regard.

According to the information, headless carcasses of at least 20 cows were found at an abandoned place near railway track near village Jhans, about 36 kms from here in the morning today. Around 12 gunny bags filled with potatoes were also found lying at the incident place. The area falls opposite focal point, village Dadiala.

It is presumed that some unidentified persons first dumped these cows and gunny bags filled with potatoes there during night and after mass slaughtering the cows removed their skins and heads. Before disappearing they took away the skins with them. In the morning today these were spotted by some locals and then they informed the Tanda police station in this connection.

On getting information a police team headed by Hoshiarpur Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Mukhtiar Rai and GRP Jalandhar Superintendent of Police Parveen Kanda reached the spot and initiated investigations.

The local police asked the protestors to end their dharna and blockade as GRP Jalandhar is registering an FIR in this connection. But the protestors were insisting to register a case at Tanda police station. The police have diverted traffic on alternative routes. The dharna and blockade of traffic is continuing till the filing of this story.
