Jammu, March 16 (UNI) Director General of CRPF Kuldeep Singh on Wednesday said the force has made a significant contribution to maintain peace during revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.
“During the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, CRPF has played significant contribution by its professionalism, skills and capability to maintain peace and tranquility in the region has been praised many times by Central and UT governments,” Singh said while addressing DG’s Parade here at Maulana Azad Stadium ahead of Raising Day celebrations scheduled for March 19.
Union Minister Amit Shah will be the chief guest on the occasion.
“CRPF at present is the main force, which is required for internal security, including security of many vital installations, religious places and also provide security to all events related to cultural, religious or any other event,” he said, adding that this is the Force which is first in demand by all states and UT for maintaining law and order has marked credibility and reliability.
“CRPF has successfully conducted number of operations and neutralized hundreds terrorists and thwarted many fidayeen attempts. CRPF being the largest force having specialized battalions to deal with different situations and challenges across the nation like RAF units to tackle communal riots, caste riots, swung in action during natural calamities, earthquakes,” he added.
Furthermore, he said that to deal with the left wing extremism CRPF formed highly skilled jungle tactics/ guerrilla warfare CoBRA units and similarly to secure the temple of democracy specialised Parliamentary Duty Group (PDG) was established, which may be a pride for the force.
“There is also a specialised VIP security wing formed to provide foolproof security cover to VVIPs and Special Duty Group Battalion of the CRPF that provides security to premier vital installations and VVIPs,” said the CRPF chief.
The Central Reserve Police Force will celebrate 83rd Anniversary Parade rechristened as CRPF Day at M A Stadium.
CRPF is commemorating this event for the first time in Jammu and in this connection as per the tradition of the Anniversary Parade, the DG’s Parade was organised.
CRPF is the largest Central armed police force in the world and has indeed become the most dependable force of the nation owing to its versatility, professionalism, and the bravery of its intrepid and committed Bravehearts.
He said that CRPF, not only in the country, but also as part of the UN peacekeeping force, was actively involved in security operations in Liberia, Kosovo, Haiti and Sri Lanka. “During the operations in 2021-22, CRPF killed 162 terrorists and Maoists, captured 1510 insurgents and 751 Maoists and insurgents surrendered.”
Similarly in various operations, 445 arms, 13258 ammunition, explosive, 1412.75-kg explosive material, 234 grenades, 136 bombs, 636 IEDs, 2407 Detonators, 5336 gelatin sticks, amount Rs 3,27,38,401/- and 25775.43 kgs narcotics drugs were recovered by the CRPF indicated their professionalism and skills to perform duties effectively.
“In the line of duty, our 12 men have made their supreme sacrifice and 159 jawans got injured. In the long duration of the nation’s service, men of this force have shown their valour and heroism in the last 82 years and got 2309 gallantry medals,” he added.
Singh said that during the year 2021-22, CRPF received 272 gallantry medals, including four Kirti Chakra, nine Shaurya Chakra, 2 PPMG, 246 PMG and for saving lives, nine Prime Minister’s medals were rewarded.
“Modernisation of weaponry and equipment and bullet proofing of vehicles are done at a large scale to counter terrorist activity and better security for our men. Efforts are being taken to improve the living conditions of our men. CRPF is making continuous attempts to provide better living conditions to the personnel and their families and the Central government is alive to the personnel and providing adequate assistance to ensure better facilities to them,” he added.
