The death toll following an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip on Friday has increased to seven, the Palestinian enclave’s Health Ministry said, adding that 40 people have suffered injuries.

Earlier in the day, the ministry said that the attack killed four people.

“The death toll in the Israeli airstrike in Gaza has now risen to seven, including a five-year-old girl, with 40 people injured of varying severity,” the ministry said in a statement.

Israel has said that it attacked targets in the Gaza Strip in response to “threats” from Islamic Jihad. The Palestinian militant group has confirmed that one of the commanders of Al-Quds Brigades, its military wing, was killed in the airstrike.
