Devika project to be completed by year end: Jitendra

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh on Saturday said that Devika Project is to be completed before year end while Rs 52 crore has been proposed for Katra under ‘Prashad’ scheme.

Singh at Udhampur while presiding over the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee Meeting (DISHA), said that North India’s first National River Rejuvenation project of Devika will be fully complete before the year end, within the next two to three months.

Taking strong exception to the delay caused by the irresponsible behaviour of the Contract Agency, the Minister said, the project which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is now being monitored directly by the Centre.

He said instructions have been issued to expedite the work on the last leg of the project and to avoid any inconvenience to the general public on account of the ongoing work.

Dr Singh also issued instructions to the administration to immediately initiate the process of getting the Government Medical College Udhampur enrolled for the NEET entrance test so that the first batch of MBBS may be started by next year itself.

He also complemented the administration for Udhampur ranking among India’s top districts in PMGSY road construction for the last three consecutive years.

He also suggested the elected representatives and PRIs to strategize the nature and sector of entrepreneurship to be brought up in the upcoming new Industrial Estate in Udhampur.

He said, a decision has been taken to earmark milk product “Kalari ‘ under “One District One Product” programme and instructed that the follow up in this case needs to be done.

Said that under the new ‘Prashad’ (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, around Rs. 52 crore has been proposed for infrastructural and other different kinds of development in the holy city of Katra- Vaishno Devi.

The Minister said, it is a matter of pride for all residents of district Reasi that the world’s highest bridge, which was sanctioned six years ago after lot of follow up with the Railway Ministry and faced issues related to alignment in the early phase, is finally now almost complete and it has been acclaimed all over the world.
It will also serve as a vital railway link to connect Kashmir valley with the rest of India.

About the ongoing Katra-New Delhi Express Road Corridor, Dr Jitendra Singh said, this project received sanction four years back and got delayed because of Covid, but is now moving on fast track and also includes six laning of existing National Highway from Pathankot to Jammu

DDC, Reasi Babila Rakwal gave sector wise detailed PowerPoint presentations of various ongoing developmental works under CSS Schemes being executed by different departments.

The Minister stressed that Power, Health, Education, Agriculture and PHE are the main priority sectors of the Government and he asked the officers to work hard to reach out to the people with zeal, sincerity and dedication.

He also emphasised on putting special focus on sectors like Agriculture, Horticulture so that it could generate more employment in the district. The Union Minister said that the Government of India has initiated several programmes and Schemes for all-round development of the district particularly far-flung areas of the district.
