The Congress today asked the Central government to ensure that Kashmiri students staying in JNU hostels are safe and secure here. Congress leader from J&K Salman Nizami urged the government to adopt a comprehensive security plan for educational institutions in the wake of the recent incidents. Nizami said, while 'anti-India sentiment is unacceptable and highly condemnable, but there should be thorough probe into the whole incident. "Don't view every Kashmiri student with suspicion, every student is not anti-India, Nizami added. He said, I heard Kanhaiya's uncut speech at JNU. Not a word that can be termed anti-national, hence he should be immediately released. He said, what ABVP & RSS is doing is completely antithetical to the democratic traditions of India, basically they are mutilating tolerance. He said we had visited JNU to express solidarity wd students. I was along with Anand Sharma ji, Dy Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha. ABVP & RSS goons attacked us, thrashed us, they hit on his ear which led to heavy bleeding; I was also hurt in the ambush while protecting him. If a Deputy leader of opposition can be attacked like this, one can imagine how serious scary it's becoming. Whoever disagrees with BJP's version of truth is called anti-national or terrorist, there are reports that Kashmiri students are being picked up by police from the hostels, this treatment is unacceptable. The present govt can't protect the students in a university, wonder how they will manage the entire nation. He further said, the speech of JNUSU Vice President who hails from Kashmir is clear, She too challenged the RSS for an open debate on Nationalism, Kashmiris during the times of militancy, stood for India and will continue to support the nation. There are no of complaints of harassment and discrimination against Kashmiri students under outside Jammu and Kashmir. One of the most common complaints is that they find it difficult to find a place to stay as many landlords refuse to rent their flat out to Kashmiris. The govt must ensure Kashmiri students aren't thrashed in JNU.
