E-cart vehicles to ferry passengers from gate at Srinagar International Airport

Srinagar International Airport is introducing free e-cart vehicles which will ferry passengers from the entry gate to the terminal building with their baggage to save time, officials said.

The facility starting on trial basis from Saturday can also be used by arriving passengers to Srinagar who can board these e-carts from the arrival exit and ride to the drop gate, a statement of the Airport Director Srinagar Airport said.

The passengers can now leave their vehicles at the drop gate and then directly put their luggage on the X-ray machine and board the e-cart which will take them to the main terminal building along with their baggage free of cost.

Paid potters would be also available at the drop gate for carrying the luggage of the passengers.

It said the facility is being introduced on an experimental basis with four numbers of art environmental friendly e-carts being put on service and after receiving good response the number of carts could be increased accordingly.

With the introduction of these e-cart vehicles 40-50 per cent passengers are likely to use the service which will save their time at the drop gate to a great extent, the statement said.

The Airport authority earlier often advise passengers to reach the airport four hours early to avoid missing flights, the statement said and added despite such precautions there were frequent complaints the passengers were still missing flights.

“There was a long standing grievance from our passengers about delays and hassles for entry to the Airport at the Drop gate and vehicle checking, baggage checking and personnel frisking was time consuming process, results in delays to the passengers seeking entry to the airport”, it said.
