Eastern Army Commander reviews operational preparedness along India-China border

Siliguri: The Eastern Army Commander, Lieutenant General RP Kalita, visited the snow-capped forward areas of Sikkim where he was briefed by senior commanders on the ground about the prevailing situation along the border, a defence release said on Wednesday.

On the other side of the border is China.

During his interaction with the troops, the Army Commander complimented the soldiers for their professionalism, dedication and commitment for maintaining round the clock vigil in an inhospitable terrain and adverse climatic conditions.

The Military Commander, who arrived at Sukna near here on February 14 on a three-day visit to the Trishakti Corps, was also briefed by Lieutenant General Tarun Kumar Aich, General Officer Commanding, Trishakti Corps on the prevailing situation and operational preparedness of the formations.

On Tuesday, the Army Commander had called on Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad and chief justice of Sikkim high court Biswanath Somadder.

The military officer briefed the two regarding the related current security situation along the borders and various  facets of the ongoing civil-military cooperation in the region during their separate meetings.
