Farmers Detained During Protest At Ring Road Project Site In Jammu

The police on Saturday detained several farmers who appeared at ring road construction site to protest against delay in land compensation in Chak Avtara village of Bishnah tehsil in Jammu on Saturday.

Sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that police detained scores of farmers including some PRIs from the spot.

Notably, government is constructing a ring road from Chak Avtara village of Bishnah in Jammu.

The protesters accused the authorities and revenue department of playing with their livelihood and said that there is inordinate delay in completion of formalities and release of land compensation which was taken from them for the construction of the road.

“We are being harassed and there is highhandedness of government departments everywhere,” they said.

They said that the land taken from farmers for the project is higher in size than one mentioned in papers and accused that standing crop of farmers has been damaged without caring for their livelihood.

Later, SHO Bishnah, SDPO RS Pura and concerned Sub Divisional Magistrate reached the spot and some protesters including farmers and PRIs were detained from the spot.

“There is highhandedness everywhere. Poor farmers are not being paid compensation and now they have been detained.” locals said while protesting against detention of locals in Bishnah police station.
