Four charred to death as car catches fire in Saharanpur

Four persons, including a couple, were charred to death when a car caught fire while overtaking a truck in Rampur Maniharan area of Saharanpur district here in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that the incident took place when the car in an attempt to overtake the truck brushed its side and caught fire. “Some passerby informed Rampur Maniharan police about the incident, but by the time it reached the spot the car was completely gutted in the fire,” they said.

Police sources said that after getting information Superintendent of Police (City) Abhimanyu Mangalik reached the spot and identified the car owner Pallavi Goel with the help of the registration number. “When contacted Pallavi informed the police that her father Umesh Goel, mother Punita along with Amreesh Jindal and Geeta Jindal were travelling in the car,” they said.

Police sources said that Pallavi told that her parents were going to Haryana from Jwalapur in Haridwar. “The SP has informed deceased Umesh’s son Anurag Goel about the incident and he is reaching the spot,” they said.

Police sources said that the truck driver was arrested by the police from a roadside eatery some five to six kilometres away from the spot. “The driver told the police that the car caught fire after it brushed the side of a truck while attempting to overtake,” they said.
