Four people have been confirmed dead and another injured as a car plunged into a water canal outside Pul-e-Khumri, the provincial capital of Afghanistan’s northern Baghlan province, a provincial police spokesman said on Friday.
The deadly crash, according to Mawlawi Shir Ahmad Burhani, occurred on Thursday evening when a car due to reckless driving crashed into the water canal outside Pul-e-Khumri city, killing four commuters including two children on the spot and injuring the driver.
In a similar road accident, a traveler died and four others including the driver were badly injured in Mehtarlam, capital of eastern Laghman province, Wednesday night.
Dilapidated roads, reckless driving and lack of safety measures during travel on battered highways often cause deadly traffic accidents in Afghanistan.
