The GoI, on Tuesday has announced to have elongated the ban on (LTTE) Liberation Tigers Of Tamil Eelam for next five years by declaring it an “unlawful association”, which has been constantly adopting a strong anti-India rhetoric and posing a “grave threat” to the security of Indian nationals.
In a fresh notification, issued by Union Home Ministry of India has extended its ban on the outfit ( LTTE).
LTTE was for the first time banned in India after the assassination of Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, in the year 1991.
The notification mentioned that, the diaspora continued to spread through articles in the internet portals, anti-India feeling amongst the Sri Lankan Tamils by holding the GoI responsible for the defeat of the LTTE and such propaganda through Internet, which was remaining to be continued, was likely seen to impact VVIP security adversely in India.
The ban on the band was last time extended in May 2014. Now the new notifications say that LTTE was a group based in Sri-Lanka, but having its supporters, sympathizers, agents in India; it poses a grave threat on India’s integrity and sovereignty.
Under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, a number of cases were filed against many pro-LTTE groups and chauvinists. This was done in allegiance to the May 2014 notifications. Besides these cases, the cases which fall under the provisions of Explosive Substances Act 1908, “the Indian Penal Code”, were also registered among others.
Still, the LTTE even after its military defeat in May 2009 in Sri Lanka has not given-up the concept and objectives of constituting an “Eelam” of Tamil fishermen. In a clandestine way its members are working for “perestroika” restructuring and for the revival of the association back. They are doing so, by undertaking, fundraising and propaganda activities in Europe.
