National Conference Vice President and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that the hearing on the Article 370 in the Supreme Court is the test of the Constitution.

“Hearing on the Article 370 in the Supreme Court is the test of constitution”, Omar told media persons in Srinagar on Wednesday.

“We want the constitution and law upheld. It is the test of the strength of the constitution ,” he said.

Omar said the NC petitions pleaded by Kapil Sibal yesterday and today by Gopal Subramanian speaking on it proves that what happened with the people of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019 was unconstitutional and unlawful.

“Arguments had been strong but still the government has not yet responded…who knows how strong the government’s response would be”, he replied to a question.

“I would definitely say that from the National Conference side Kapil Sibal and Gopal Subramanium representing our two petitions was a good decision”, he added.

“Better than this we may have not pleaded our case in the Supreme Court. Rest is up to the judges and the almighty but we have pinned a hope, the former CM said.

Regarding Municipal elections, the NC Vice President said when elections will be held, the party will contest.

He said the BJP seems not in a mood to hold Municipal elections as they fear defeat…less in Srinagar and more in Jammu division following which Congress party shows their presence in Jammu.

“If elections were held, the National Conference would participate overwhelmingly”, he added.
