Srinagar: Failing to maintain sanctity of exams, the authorities at regional directorate of Indra Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Srinagar and Jammu divisions have cancelled two papers of B.ed course which were held earlier this month.
According to wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the papers have been cancelled after it came to fore that the question papers set for the exams were leaked before the conduct of exams by IGNOU authorities.
The 2nd year B.Ed examination is being conducted for in-service teachers of school education department Jammu and Kashmir. The exam commenced on January 01 and culminated on January 08. However, the last two papers which were conducted on January 07 and 08 have been cancelled by IGNOU.
“The term end examination, December 2019 for 2nd year B.Ed examination for courses BES-128 and BES-129 conducted on January and 7 and 08 in regions of Jammu and Srinagar have been cancelled,” reads a notification issued by IGNOU on its website, as per KNO.
The cancellation of these two exams has however annoyed the teachers who say that they are forced to bear the brunt of callousness of the IGNOU authorities.
“This is sheer injustice with the candidates. If the IGNOU couldn’t maintain the sanctity of exams why should be we put to task by asking to appear in exam again. Even if the paper was leaked it might have got shared with a minor chunk given the non availability of internet and other facilities,” said an in-service teacher from Kupwara district.
Meanwhile, as per the notification, the cancelled exam will be re-conducted on February 14 and 15 for which the IGNOU will issue fresh hall tickets for the candidates. “The IGNOU officials need to maintain sanctity of the exams to avoid any untoward in holding the exams. IGNOU officials should initiate a probe to ascertain how the answer paper was leaked, another teacher told KNO.
“In Amar Singh college, a case was filed after it came to fore that a master grade teachers was fraudulently writing exam in place of a regularized ReT teacher in the exam hall. “A case of super was made against the candidate and report was submitted to IGNOU office for cancellation of their exam,” an official said.
He said a copy was also submitted to the Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) with the recommendation to initiate departmental action against both the teachers.
Regional Director IGNOU for Kashmir regional Muhammad Shameem was not available for his comments. However a top official in regional centre Srinagar said the exam was cancelled on the basis of directions received from IGNOU headquarters Delhi.
“They had received some reports of paper leak in Jammu region and they decided to cancel exam in both the regions,” the official said.
