Islamabad, April 9 (UNI) Pakistan’s National Assembly voted out Imran Khan out as the prime minister of Pakistan as it passed the no-confidence motion against him with 174 votes in favour. The National Assembly needed at least 172 votes to remove the prime minister.
Imran Khan left the Prime Minister House for his Banigala residence before the vote was held. After his departure, some of the PTI ministers who arrived there were not allowed to enter the PM House. No prime minister has completed their term in Pakistan’s political history, but Imran Khan is the first prime minister to be removed by a vote of no-confidence. He was in power for three years and eight months.
The vote was held when the session resumed shortly before midnight on Saturday after being adjourned thrice during the day, and PTI’s Asad Qaiser announced that he was stepping down as National Assembly speaker. PML-N’s Ayaz Sadiq presided over the session.
Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri also stepped down. PML-N leader Shehbaz Sharif was given the mic to speak and he thanked all the key leaders of opposition, beginning with PPP leader Asif Ali Zadari. Sharif said a new dawn was about to break as God had granted prayers of Pakistani mothers.
