Jammu: LPG cylinders explosion due to fire kill 3, injure 15

Jammu, March 14 (UNI) At least three persons were charred to death and 15 suffered injuries, when LPG cylinders exploded due to fire inside a scrap shop in posh Residency Road area here in the heart of the city. Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu Chandan Kohli said that during the evening hours on Monday, fire broke out in a scrap shop at Residency Road area of Jammu.

“Short circuit in electricity wiring is suspected to be the cause of fire breakout in initial stage,” said the SSP, adding that flames engulfed the entire building and some LPG cylinders lying inside also exploded.

“Fifteen persons sustained injuries in the incident, who all have been evacuated from the site with hectic efforts of police, fire and emergency services assisted by locals and all injured are under treatment in local hospital,” said the top cop, adding that three people have so far lost their lives in the incident. Rescue operation is going on, he said.

An official of Fire and Emergency Services said that seven fire tenders, along with fire fighting team and an ambulance, have been pressed into service. “The injured have been rushed to the hospital,” he said.
