Discussions underway with top leadership, announcement expected soon: Ashok Koul
Top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Jammu and Kashmir are in New Delhi to finalize the party’s candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections and the by-elections for the Nagrota and Budgam Assembly constituencies.
Confirming the development, BJP General Secretary (Organisation) Ashok Koul told Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS) over the phone from New Delhi that the discussions with the party’s top leadership are currently underway.
“Yes, we are in Delhi to discuss and finalize the candidates for the Rajya Sabha and Assembly by-polls on Nagrota and Budgam seats. The discussions are in progress, and it may take a few days to finalize the list,” Koul said.
According to party sources, the J&K BJP team led by Tarun Chugh (BJP J&K Incharge), Sat Sharma (BJP J&K President), and Ashok Koul will hold detailed discussions with Party President JP Nadda and National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh. The focus of these meetings will be on shortlisted names for the four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir and the two Assembly constituencies — Nagrota and Budgam — where bypolls are scheduled for November 11.
Sources added that the J&K leaders will also meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss strategy for the upcoming polls.
The meeting with Central leadership is expected to cover candidate selection and outreach programs in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions, particularly in Kashmir valley, where the BJP is looking to strengthen its presence and grassroots engagement.
The Rajya Sabha elections hold special importance for the BJP as the party seeks to enhance its representation from Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament.
Meanwhile, the Nagrota and Budgam by-polls are seen as a litmus test of the party’s organizational preparedness and public support.(KINS) Ishtiyaq Kar
