J&K Govt suspends DSP over slap incident

A Jammu and Kashmir constable was suspended for allegedly thrashing a Village Defence Guard (VDG) member in Doda district.

Officials today said that taking a strong note of the alleged misconduct involving Selection Grade Constable Mohd Zia of police post, Premnagar, particularly the alleged thrashing of a VDG member, the Senior Superintendent of Police, Doda, Sandeep Mehta has taken immediate action.

They said that the Constable has been placed under suspension with immediate effect and attached to District Police Lines (DPL) pending further proceedings.

A departmental inquiry has been ordered, and a senior officer was appointed as the inquiry officer to investigate the incident. “The enquiry report is to be submitted within a fortnight,” said an officer.

Officials said the conduct of the then SHO Police Station Thathri, DySP (P) Afeer Jaleel, would also be thoroughly examined as part of the enquiry.

“The enquiry officer has been directed to assess his role and submit specific findings for further necessary action,” said an officer.
