At least two suspected militants- Bashir Ahmad Malik and Ahmed Gani Sheikh were killed in a joint operation code named “Op Kali” by the Army and the police on Wednesday and they foiled an infiltration bid in Uri.

Army said Malik was active for over three decades and was an important cog in the Pakistan-enabled cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

“ChinarCorps Cdr visited troops deployed along the LoC in Counter Terrorism grid in Baramulla today. He complimented troops for meticulous planning and successful conduct of OP KALI, #Uri on 15 Nov where an infiltration bid was foiled and two terrorists were eliminated & war-like stores recovered,” Army’s Srinagar based Chinar Corps said in a post on X on Friday.

On Thursday ,the Army said Malik was an important terrorist launch commander for terror organisations from Leepa in the north to the areas in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, opposite Rajouri in the south.

The commanding officer of Army’s 8 Rashtriya Rifles Colonel Raghav said the neutralization of Malik has dealt a blow to the terror infrastructure across LoC as well as sympathisers and supporters of terrorism.
