Rainfall at a few weather stations and a periodical cloudy sky brought a slight relief from the sweltering heat and humid weather conditions all across the Kashmir valley on Friday.
After experiencing the hottest July weather continuously for the past two days with the temperature rising to 35.7?C, Srinagar recorded a maximum of 34.2?C on Friday, providing a slight relief from the scorching heat and humid conditions. Srinagar also received 0.6 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
The tourist spot of Pahalgam recorded the maximum temperature at 26.3?C on Friday against the 30.0?C recorded the previous day, and it was 0.1?C above normal for the valley of shepherds in south Kashmir. Pahalgam also received 3.8 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours.
Picnic spot Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded the day temperature at 30.9?C and received 1.5mm of rainfall, while Gulmarg recorded the maximum temperature at 23.4?C, which was 1.6?C above the normal of 21.8?C for the famous ski resort of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar predicted the weather will remain general cloudy from this evening with the possibility of rain or thundershowers over parts of Kupwara, Tanghdar, Handwara, Bandipora, Kangan-Sonamarg axis, Tangmarg, parts of Badgam, Pahlgam, parts of South Kashmir, Srinagar, Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban-Banihal axis, and a few parts of Reasi.
A few places may receive intense showers with gusty winds for a brief period.
It said there is also the possibility of intermittent moderate rainfall at most places in J&K with heavy showers or rainfall at a few places during the next 24 hours, while on July 7, a spell of intermittent light to moderate rain with thundershowers will occur at many places.
The hot and humid weather is likely to continue with the possibility of a brief spell of rain/thundershower at scattered places of Jammu Division towards late night or early morning and a spell of rain/thundershower at a few places in Kashmir Division during July 8?10, the MeT office said.
A spell of light to moderate rain/thundershower at scattered places cannot be ruled out on July 11 and 12, the MeT office said on Friday.
