JK Police arrests narcotic smuggler in Kupwara

Srinagar, March 10 (UNI) J&K police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a narcotic smuggler in Kupwara and recovered charas from his possession.

Police said during the intervening night of February 9 and 10 around 21:00 hours a narcotic smuggler identified as Showkat Ahmad Rather of village Kawari from Radbugh area in frontier north Kashmir’s district of Kupwara was apprehended alongwith 1 Kg of Charas.
A senior police official said that based on specific information a police naka was established at Radbugh in presence of Local Executive Magistrate where Showkat was arrested while smuggling the narcotics with the intention to sell it among the youth of Kupwara.
Sensing Police presence,  Showkat tried to evade the interception but was caught tactfully. On being searched in presence of the Executive Magistrate charas was recovered from his possession which was seized and sealed on the spot.
During preliminary investigations, Showkat revealed that he was on way to sell the narcotics in small quantities among the youth of Kupwara.
Further investigations in the case to unearth this drugs syndicate are in progress, police said.
