Srinagar: Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) on Wednesday it will launch ‘Free Yasin Malik’ and ‘Lift Ban On JKLF’ campaigns throughout globe.
The acting chairman of JKLF Abdul Hamid Butt in a statement issued to GNS said: “The prolonged imprisonment of JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik and ban on JKLF are illegal and international community should immediately intervene and stress upon India to release Malik and lift ban on this political organization.”
While addressing JKLF supreme council meeting held recently which was attended and addressed by the party members, Butt said the continuous detention of Yasin Malik, who is lodged at Tihar Jail, Delhi is “totally unlawful, arbitrary” and based on political victimization.
“On one hand, Indian rulers are busy employing undemocratic tactics to suppress Kashmiris and on other hand are boasting about being the biggest and vibrant democracy which is ridiculous and absurd,” he said.
Butt said it was JKLF and its chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik who at the appeal of the international community especially US, UK and EU declared a unilateral ceasefire in 1994 and started non-violent campaign.
“This was a most risky decision taken by Yasin Malik and the JKLF, who took this decision and adhered to it despite numerous provocations. It is the JKLF and its leader Muhammad Yasin Malik who promoted and propagated peaceful and non-violent mode of resistance in Jammu Kashmir of which 18-month-long famous JKLF signature campaign and 116-day-long journey for freedom programs are glittering examples which were even acknowledged and appreciated by Indian, Pakistani and the international leadership,” he said.
Butt said the leadership of both India and Pakistan along with the international community fully knows about the nature of the peaceful struggle of JKLF and Yasin Malik but still Indian rulers chose to ban JKLF and put Yasin Malik behind bars that too on “frivolous and concocted” charges.
“JKLF being a strong organization that has its units and roots all over the globe cannot and will not remain silent on Indian aggression against it and its chairman and we will launch a sustained campaign in this connection,” Butt said.
He directed all JKLF zones to intensify their efforts in this regard and start “Free Yasin Malik” and “Lift Ban on JKLF” campaigns throughout the world.
“After this very meeting, all the JKLF zonal committees and diplomatic bureaus held separate meetings and have decided to hold rallies, sit-ins and other programs outside Indian embassies, UN offices and other important places throughout the world,” the JKLF acting chairman said.
He said according to the program, JKLF leaders and activists will hold protest rallies on 13 July 2019 throughout the world and demand immediate release of Muhammad Yasin Malik and lifting ban on JKLF.
Meanwhile, Butt has strongly condemned the attack on the house of incarcerated Moulana Sarjan Barkati at Shopian.
“Some masked men attacked the house of Moulana Sarjan Barkati and tried to kill his wife by strangulating her but by Allah’s grace, she escaped this murderous attack,” Butt said and termed the attack as shameful.
He appealed human rights bodies to look into the matter and safeguard the lives of the relatives of those incarcerated. Sarjan Barkati is in jail since 2016.
He said Ayaz Akbar’s wife is severely ill and appealed ICRC to intervene in this matter and try to secure early release of Hurriyat leader. (GNS)
