Srinagar: Awami National Conference (ANC) senior Vice President Muzzafar Shah Thursday said that the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha should order the immediate suspension and arrest of the police unit at Sopore involved in what he termed as cold blooded murder of the youth till completion of an enquiry that should set up constituted under a sitting Judge of the Kashmir High Court.

“A time-bound enquiry not stretching beyond one month is the need of the hour to unravel the truth behind such gruesome incidents committed by people in Uniform otherwise under oath to protect the life, dignity, honour & Constitutional rights of every individual,” Shah said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said even if, as per the police statement in this case, the men in uniform have no authority to kill a person on the pretext of running away in darkness. “If it was dark as per the flimsy police version, then how was Irfan spotted and shot,” he questioned.

“The people of Kashmir are yet to recover from the cold-blooded murder of the Rajouri youth in Shopian that they are now mourning the tragedy befallen the family of Irfan at Sopore. This is highly condemnable & unacceptable. The people of Kashmir need the Lt Governor to act as per his duty towards the masses & ensure such tragedies are stopped completely,” he said.

Shah appealed to all political parties to raise this issue in and outside Jammu and Kashmir to ensure a speedy trial in this matter to bring the culprits to justice however high his position—(KNO)
