The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday said that, in a major breakthrough in the Red Fort area car bomb blast case, it has arrested a Kashmiri resident who had conspired with the suicide bomber to carry out the terror attack that claimed 10 innocent lives and left around 25 others injured.
In a handout to GNS, the NIA said that Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the car involved in the attack was registered, was arrested from Delhi. The arrest followed a massive search operation launched by the agency after it took over the case from Delhi Police.
According to the NIA, investigations revealed that the accused, a resident of Samboora, Pampore in Jammu and Kashmir, had conspired with the alleged suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi to execute the attack. Amir had travelled to Delhi to facilitate the purchase of the car that was later used as a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED) to trigger the blast.
The NIA has forensically established the identity of the deceased driver of the vehicle-borne IED as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district and an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University, Faridabad.
The anti-terror agency has also seized another vehicle belonging to Nabi, which is now being examined for evidence. So far, the NIA has examined 73 witnesses, including several of those injured in the blast that rocked the national capital on 10 November.
Working in close coordination with Delhi Police, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, UP Police, and other sister agencies, the NIA said it is continuing its investigation across multiple states. It is pursuing several leads to uncover the larger conspiracy behind the bombing and to identify others involved in case RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI, the statement added.
