Man arrested for posting pro-Palestine comments on social media

One person was arrested by the police from Maudaha area of Hamirpur district in Uttar Pradesh, allegedly for making an attempt to vitiate the atmosphere by making pro-Palestine comments on social media, police sources said on Saturday.


The sources here said that Atif Chaudhary and Imam Maulana Sohail Ahmed Ansari, both residents of Maudaha town, made several comments in support of Palestine on social media amidst ongoing war between Israel and Palestine.


“On the complaint of Sub-Inspector Ravi Mehta, a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was lodged at Maudaha police station on Friday afternoon,” they said.


Police sources also said that the complainant alleged that on different dates the accused posted slogans on the status of their social media account which were banned in India.
“It was alleged that the accused committed the act with an objective of promoting enmity between different groups and to disturb religious and social harmony,” they said.


The sources said that one of the accused Imam Maulana Sohail Ahmed Ansari was arrested from Maudaha crossing late on Friday night. “Efforts are being made to arrest the second accused Atif Chaudhary.


The case is being investigated,” they said.
