Jammu, (UNI) Normal life was derailed on Tuesday as hundreds of aspirants of the Border Battalion seeking jobs staged noisy protests here and blocked the main bridge on river Tawi, the lifeline connecting South Jammu with the old city.
Shouting slogans and holding placards, the aspirants marched towards the bridge and blocked the road, taking the authorities by surprise.
The demonstrators said they had applied for recruitment in the border battalions some years ago but till date, the written examination had not been conducted.
“We have been waiting for the written test and despite repeated requests and appeals, no notification has been issued by the administration,” said one of the protesters.
She slammed Central ministers for tweeting about other happenings place in Jammu and Kashmir but ignoring their plight.
“We are battling for our rights and running from pillar to post for the written examination but nothing is visible on the ground,” said another demonstrator.
Meanwhile, a heavy contingent of police was deployed to maintain law and order and prevent the agitators from marching towards the Civil Secretariat.
Jammu witnessed massive traffic jams due to the protest.
