Mir asks forces to exercise ''maximum restraint'' while dealing with the agitators.

Srinagar: After Shopian encounter did stir the volatile situation in the area, Congress leader G A Mir has asked police and security personals to exercise maximum restraint policy, while dealing with the protesters.

 Earlier, on Friday, three militants were killed in an encounter, following which clashes erupted between the protesters and security forces. Local residents took to the streets and hurled stones on forces, who were engaged in an anti-militancy operation, according to the sources.

Mir Said, “We express anguish over the prevailing situation in a Shopian district of south Kashmir in the backdrop of the gunfight at Adhkara village. Security forces should exercise maximum restraint while dealing with the angry protesters.”

Mir, is contesting elections as the congress’s candidate from the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat. Of which Pulwama and Shopian, are also a part of the constituency . Polling at these places will be held on may 6.

Mir, also in a statement expressed deep sorrow about the adverse situation in the place. Mir said, that in such an outbreak the morale of ”maximum restraint” should be followed by the security forces.

He further hoped that efforts should be made to let tranquility and peace prevail again in the place. Mir also requested local masses, particularly to youth, to not to confront security forces and maintain peace.

Mir said, such activities contribute to violence only, and spell more beans in an already troubled situation.
