Mehbooba fears for Kashmir if docs found involved in Delhi blast after probe

Former chief minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti today expressed concern over reports suggesting that some doctors from the Valley have been named in connection with the recent Delhi blast case, saying that if the allegations are proven true, it would be a “moment of worry” for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to media, Mehbooba said the Delhi blast, in which several people lost their lives, was heart-wrenching, and the possibility of educated professionals being linked to such an act was deeply disturbing.

“It was a very sad incident, and what is even more painful is that some of our doctors from Kashmir are being named. These are among the most intelligent and educated people of our society — the architects of the nation,” she said.

She added that if, after a fair and transparent investigation, it is proven that the doctors were involved, it would be a cause for concern.

“For the people of Jammu and Kashmir, especially for the Muslim community, this is a moment of worry.

Not only are our best brains being wasted, but it also brings a big stain upon us,” Mehbooba said, adding this would make life more difficult for people from Jammu and Kashmir, particularly Muslims, across the country and even those living outside the region.

The PDP chief further hoped that the ongoing investigation would be “free, fair, and quick,” adding that families of those under suspicion should be questioned but “not treated as criminals” until the charges are proven.

“Those who are under suspicion should be questioned, but in a manner that preserves their dignity and not treat them like criminals,” she added.
