Militant associate arrested in Baramulla

Srinagar, April 7 (UNI) A militant associate of Lashkar-e-Toiba was arrested in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday, officials said.

Police said Iqbal Mir of Mungam Wagoora was arrested on specific information.

“On specific information regarding movement of terrorists in the of Dolipora Kreeri, joint parties of Baramulla Police, Army’s 29 RR and 2nd Bn SSB established an MVCP (mobile vehicle check point at Dolipora Morh,” a police statement said.

It said one suspicious person, who was coming towards Dolipora, upon seeing the MVCP party tried to flee from the spot.
He was apprehended after a brief chase. He was identified as Iqbal Mir. During search of the individual, arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession which includes an AK magazine, 20 – live rounds of AK, two UBGL grenades and two detonators which were being carried in a bag,” it added.

“During preliminary investigation, it was found that he is a close associate of an active terrorist Hilal Sheikh alias Hanzulla of Shrakwara Kreeri affiliated with banned terrorist organization LeT & he is also in contact with a Pakistani terrorist Usman,” the statement said.

“A major terrorist plot has been avoided due to the apprehension of this terrorist associate,” it said.
Police has registered a case under sections of Indian Arms Act and UA (P) Act in Police Station Kreeri and investigation has been set in motion.
