Hubballi, April 22 (UNI) The Chairman of the State Minorities Commission, Abdul Azeem, has visited the Karnataka city’s violence-hit areas including a Hanuman Temple and a hospital which a Muslim mob damaged during protests against a derogatory post on social media.

On his visit to the temple, Azeem inspected the windows of the shrine that were damaged due to stone pelting. He also visited the hospital which also faced violence. Speaking to reporters, Azeem said he would submit a report to the Karnataka government documenting the violence that happened in Old Hubballi along with recommendations on maintaining communal harmony in the state.

One of the recommendations Azeem pronounced was the need to set up peace committees comprising doctors, lawyers and prominent personalities to maintain peace and tranquility.

“I have suggested to Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner Labhu Ram to order a fair and bipartisan probe. Pelting stones at a police station is equivalent to disrespecting the Constitution. Members of any community must not give into emotional decisions,” he said. Azeem also met prominent members of Muslim community at a meeting convened at Circuit House.
